A New Slayer Has Been Chosen! Ryan Kiera Armstrong To Star Alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Okay, Buffy fans, it’s happening! Ryan Kiera Armstrong, the kid from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew and Firestarter, has been cast as the new Slayer in the much-anticipated Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. And she’s not just starring alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar. She’s personally chosen by Buffy Summers herself. Cue the fangirling.
Hulu has officially ordered a pilot for the still-untitled project, which will see Gellar reprise her iconic role as Buffy Summers while serving as an executive producer. Directing the pilot is Chloé Zhao, the Oscar-winning director of Nomadland. The story is penned by sisters Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, and it’s being described as the next chapter in the Buffyverse.
So, who exactly is Armstrong playing? According to the casting notes, she’s an introverted high schooler. And if her previous performances are anything to go by, she will absolutely crush it.
Gellar made the big reveal in an Instagram video, surprising the 15-year-old with the news. And, honestly, I’m not crying, you’re crying. “From the moment I saw Ryan’s audition, I knew she was the one I wanted by my side,” Gellar wrote. “To have that kind of emotional intelligence and talent at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus? Her smile lights up even the darkest room.”
In the video, Gellar asks Armstrong, “Wanna be my chosen one? Will you stand by my side and save the world?” And of course, Armstrong, through happy tears, said yes. Her dad, actor-producer Dean Armstrong, was also there to celebrate the moment.
The Buffy fam is already showing love, with OGS Charisma Carpenter and Emma Caulfield dropping their support in the comments. And honestly, the whole interaction is a must-watch.
Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been killing it lately, with a resume already packed with standout roles. With Gellar backing her and the Buffyverse expanding, the reboot went from “maybe” to “must-watch.”
